A new sesquiterpene, having the general formula C15H20O3 is disclosed. This sesquiterpene was found to possess the property of inhibiting the growth of dermatophytes and particularly of Microsporum canis and Trichophyton rubrum when administered in an adequate dose. This sesquiterpene was obtained from leaves of the plant Inula viscosa. The structural formula of the sesquiterpene and a simple method for its isolation are described. |
