The particle separator has a retarding element (6) for reducing the horizontal velocity of an entering gas-entrained bulk material stream. The separator, for separating fine particles from a gas-entrained bulk material stream, comprises a horizontal feed pipe (3) extending into a vessel (1) having a top outlet (4) for gas and fine particles and a bottom outlet (5) for coarse particles. The feed pipe is associated with a retarding element (6), which reduces the horizontal velocity of the entering bulk material stream, and the top outlet is offset from the feed pipe outlet end (7) in the direction of the feed pipe entrance opening (2) of the vessel. An Independent claim is also included for a bulk material silo which has the above separator mounted on its roof and which is connected to the bottom outlet of the separator.
