Methyl 3-methoxy-3-(2-(alkylidene-hydrazonomethyl)-phenyl)-acrylate derivatives (I) are new. Azines of formula (I) are new. G = direct bond, -C(=NOR1)-, -(C=NNR1R2)-, -C(=NR1)-, -CH(NR1R2)-, -CH(C(Me)=NOR1)- or -CH(OR1)-; R1, R2 = alkyl, alkenyl, alkynyl, aryl, cycloalkyl, alkylcarbonyl or aryl (all optionally substituted); R = H, alkyl or (both optionally substituted) cycloalkyl or aryl; Z' = CN, alkoxycarbonyl, alkoxy, cycloalkoxy or (all optionally substituted) alkyl, cycloalkyl, cycloalkylalkyl, aryl, aryl, aralkyl, heterocyclyl or heterocyclylalkyl; L1-L4 - H, halo, CN, NO2 or (all optionally halo-substituted)alkyl, alkoxy, alkylthio, alkylsulfinyl or alkylsulfonyl.
