Microtome for cutting frozen or rigid biological samples into discs

The microtome has a casing, a cooling plate on which a frozen or rigid sample and a device (11,1a-1e) for cooling the heat-radiating side of an electronic heat exchanger element. The cooling plate can be fixed detachably to the microtome casing and the heat exchanger is used to cool the cooling plate. To cut a frozen sample, an open cassette is prepared in which the probe is placed and then molten paraffin (2a) is poured over the sample until it is embedded. The rigid cassette is then in the form of a single rigid piece.
