PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a liquid crystal alignment material capable of forming a liquid crystal display excellent in liquid crystal orienting properties and electrical characteristics, having suppressed formation of defective displays even at a low baking temperature and useful for a nematic liquid crystal, etc., by including a specific polyimide precursor mixture as an essential component. SOLUTION: This liquid crystal orienting agent contains (A) a polyimide precursor having a recurring unit represented by formula I [X is a tetravalent organic group such as benzene-1,2,4,5-tretrayl or, cyclobutane-1,2,3,4-tetraryl; R is H or an alkyl; (n) is 2-12] and (b) a polyimide precursor having a recurring unit represented by formula II [Y is a tetravalent aliphatic group such as (cyclo) butane-1,2,3,4-tetrayl or cyclopentane-1,2,3,4-tetravyl; Z is a vibalent aromatic group such as 1,4-phenylene or 3,3'-dimethyl-4,4'-biphenylylene]. The liquid crystal alignment material preferably contains 30-95 wt.% of the component B based on the total amount of the components A and B. |
