At least one cylindrical lens (3) is placed in front of each visible colour-sub-pixel column. The cylindrical lens is arranged between grating lines in a barrier arrangement. In a barrier arrangement, with n colour-sub-pixels, n cylindrical lenses are arranged between the grating lines per pixel. A shadow line liquid crystal display (LCD) with separately switchable line elements my be provided for each cylindrical lens.
