The aim of the invention is to provide a means of communicating measuring signals from sensors in addition to normal data in a fibre-optic data communication system (10) without using special electronic components for coupling the sensor signals into an optical waveguide (2). To this end, the optical data communication system (10) is combined with an integrated sensor system. Bragg gratings (8) integrated into the optical waveguide (2) are preferably used as sensors. An optical data communication system (10) of this type with an integrated sensor system is preferably used in teletransmission networks, for example for monitoring modules (24).
