The laser is composed of a laser radiation source (101) for pumping a fiber laser (103), two independently controllable laser radiation sources (104,105), and devices (107, 102, 106, 105, 109) for coupling and/or overlapping the light portions of the three different sources in one or several fiber ends of the laser. A control arrangement (112) generates two modulation signals (S1,S2) from an input modulation signal (SE), each supplied to a respective controllable laser radiation source. A control arrangement generates two modulation signals (S1,S2) from an input modulation signal, whereby the one modulation signal (S1) is supplied to the first controllable laser radiation source, and the other modulation signal (S2) is supplied to the second controllable laser radiation source. One of the laser outputs is proportional to the input modulation signal, and the other laser output is inversely proportional to the entering modulation signal.
