PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the optical deterioration of an element due to external light by comprising an electron transporting organic molecule and a hole transport organic molecule between a pair of electrodes formed by a transparent anode and a thin film cathode, and forming an external light-reflecting film, or a layer absorbing the external light of energy higher than the luminescent wavelength near the surface of a transparent substrate. SOLUTION: A light absorbing layer is formed, by doping a light absorbent in a transparent substrate or a hole injection layer and prevents the penetration of the external light into an element. In some cases, the light absorbing layer does not exist as an independent light absorbing layer but acts as a layer doped with the light absorbent. The deposition layers respectively formed by at least an electron transport organic molecule and a hole transport organic molecule are formed between a pair of electrodes formed by a transparent anode on a transparent substrate, and a thin film cathode containing an alkali metal or an alkali earth metal, and a light metastable compound of less than 20 nm film thickness, including the metallic elements of the electrode as one component, is contained in an interface between at least one electrode and the organic layer.
