PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a photomultiplier tube unit and a radiation detection device, in which photomultiplier tubes are densely arranged to improve light detection efficiency. SOLUTION: In a photomultiplier tube unit A, an outer peripheral surface 2b of a metal side tube 2 is in mutual contact with another tube 2, and such structure enables a high density arrangement of a photomultiplier tube 1. Further, it is possible to electrically connect the side tube 2 of each photomultiplier tube 1 to each other, which can easily bring the side tubes 2 to an equal electrical potoential. Thus, there is no need to perform electrical connection between a stem pin 10 and the side tube 2 individually in each photomultiplier tube 1, which facilitates the assembling of the unit A. By unitizing the photomultiplier tubes 1 in this way, in replacing a desired photomultiplier tube 1 for a new one in an apparatus having a multitude of photomultiplier tubes 1 (such as in a gamma camera), there is no need for complicated work such as replacing the photomultiplier tube 1 one by one, and thus is is possible to facilitate the replacement operation.
