PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make it easy to recover a differential bit map function for a memory by allowing a memory maintenance means to recognize the activation of the memory and initialize the memory. SOLUTION: A memory state monitor part 11 of a service adapter(SA) 123 accesses the memory (MS) 105 periodically to monitor its state. If a fault occurs to both banks provided double in a differential bit map area and the active maintenance of the MS 105 is performed, a memory replacement recognition part 13 recognizes that. Then a memory initialization part 14 after initializing the whole MS 105 initializes the differential bit map area. The SA 123 once initialized informs a resource management part(RM) 104 from a common bus command issue part 15 that the differential bit map area becomes effective. The RM 104 informs respective modules that the bit map area of the MS 105 is restored. Consequently, the MS 105 can autonomously recover in the file controller.
