PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To display other information than a gear shift stage without increasing the number of kinds of output signals and complicating structure, in a display device for an automatic transmission to display the gear shift stage achieved at present. SOLUTION: When only one of first and fourth gear shift stage signals is outputted to the input ports 28a-28d of a control unit 30 for display control through the output ports 27a-27d of a control unit 20 for speed shifting control, a gear shift stage corresponding to one gear shift stage signal is displayed on a gear shift stage display part 16. When a transmission is failed in operation, speed shifting is in a regulation state, or an oil temperature is in a high value state, a plurality of gear shift stage signals are outputted to distinguish the state from a normal time. In this case, a pattern for combination of a plurality of gear shift stage signals is caused to cope with the content of each information.
