LUMINANCE LEVEL COMPRESSING APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR KNEE CIRCUIT

PURPOSE: A luminance level compressing apparatus and a method for a knee circuit are provided to improve a compression and a contrast by one-to-one converting a pixel having a luminance level lower than a knee point and probability converting a pixel having a luminance level higher than a knee point. CONSTITUTION: A luminance level checking unit(100) checks a luminance level of each pixel, outputs an inputted pixel through an output line, and generates an output selection signal. An one-to-one converting unit(101) outputs a pixel having a same luminance level with a luminance level of a pixel outputted from the luminance level checking unit(100). A probability converting unit(102) converts the pixel outputted from the luminance level checking unit(100) through a histogram equalizer and outputs the pixel. A multiplex unit(103) selects a pixel outputted from the one-to-one converting unit(101) or a pixel outputted from the probability converting unit(102) in accordance with an output selection signal from the luminance level checking unit(100) and outputs a pixel to an output projection(OP).
