PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus of energizing type for treating activated carbon, capable of uniformizing the temperature distribution of activated carbon, uniformly and continuously carrying out an activating and regenerating treatment. SOLUTION: A preheating chamber 3, a first activating chamber 4 and a second activating chamber 5 are successively and continuously formed in the vertical direction in a longitudinal furnace 2. A pair of electrodes 41 and 42 or 51 and 52 mutually opposing in the horizontal direction are installed in the first activating chamber and the second activating chamber, respectively. An activated carbon material C is supplied from a feed opening arranged on the top of the longitudinal furnace through a feed amount adjusting apparatus to the chambers. An activating gas is introduced to the chambers while injecting current to the electrodes and generating heat in the activated carbon material C. The activated carbon material C is regenerated and activated. The activated carbon material is gradually moved through the preheating chamber 3, the first activating chamber 4 and the second activating chamber 5 for a fixed time and continuously taken out from an outlet installed at the bottom of the longitudinal furnace 2.
