PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To miniaturize an entire device all the more and to carry out high- quality reading operation with simple constitution. SOLUTION: A reading part 32 is equipped with a subscanning carrying means 46 subscanning and carrying a stimulable phosphor sheet S in a vertical direction, a laser beam irradiation means 48 irradiating and main scanning the sheet S with the laser beam L nearly in a horizontal direction, a reading means 50 photoelectrically reading radiograph information carried on the sheet S, and a sheet holding means 52 holding both sides of the sheet S and preventing the shake of the sheet S.
