Process for processing and pressing steel rivets comprises using hot galvanized rivets (1) which are heated in an oxygen-free atmosphere to 850-1100 deg C before inserting and pressing. An Independent claim is also included for an apparatus for heating a hot galvanized steel rivet comprising a heater (2) and a multi-part mold. One mold half (5) is rigidly arranged in the heater and the second mold half (6) can be removed from the heater.
