The invention relates to a safety belt system, comprising a vehicle-sensitively and/or belt strap-sensitively controlled blocking device, a safety belt buckle, a pretensioning device which is connected to the safety belt system and which, when it is triggered, eliminates the existing belt slack, and a constantly effective device for limiting the force exerted on the safety belt by the passenger wearing the seat-belt moving forwards. The aim of the invention is to prevent the superposition of the pretensioning process and the force-limiting process. To this end, a time-controlled device (12, 16, 22) is provided for actively switching off the drive unit of the pretensioning device (10; 20) after a predetermined period of time has elapsed.
