OPTICAL FIBER CONNECTOR AND FERRULE USED FOR IT AND PRODUCTION METHOD FOR FERRULE

Nickel is electrodeposited around an aluminum alloy wire (9) by electrocasting in an electrocasting bath (50) using the metal wire (9) immersed in an electrocasting solution (3) as a cathode. A nickel cylinder formed with a through hole corresponding to the wire (9) is obtained by eluting with an alkaline solution the aluminum alloy wire (9) from the nickel electrodeposition. A ferrule is obtained by cutting the cylinder to a preset length and cutting the outer periphery with the through hole as a reference. Since an inner diameter precision of the ferrule's through hole is determined by an outer diameter precision of the wire (9), no polishing is necessary for the through hole, thereby providing a high-precision ferrule through a simple and low-cost process. Since a ferrule is made of metal, PC polishing for a ferrule for PC-joining an optical fiber is very easy and therefore a high-performance optical fiber connector can be provided.
