PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately detect a movement fault in a short time after the occurs and to instantly conduct the protective process of a moving nose. SOLUTION: In this detecting method, position detecting sensors 2h, 2i detecting the position of a member, (e.g. a moving nose) 1 are provided on a device continuously moving the member 1 from a first position to a second position. A controller 3 predicts the position of the member 1 after the prescribed time elapses from the present time, compares the predicted position with the actual position of the member 1 after the prescribed time elapses, judges that the situation is normal if the actual position of the member 1 passes through the estimated position, and judges that such a movement fault occurs as the presence of a foreign matter if not.
