PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To press a grinding wheel with a small force by supporting a rotation shaft rotatably and axially movably by means of a bearing member, rotating the grinding wheel with a rotation driving means, axially moving the rotation shaft, and pressing an end surface portion of a plate-shaped-body with rotation the grinding wheel. SOLUTION: A rotation shaft 38 is journalled to a bearing 36 and a bearing 40, namely, both the bearing 36 and the bearing 40 journal the rotation shaft 38 rotatably and axially movably. By driving a motor 68 and by rotating a spline outer cylinder 36B of the bearing 36 by being driven by a belt, the rotation shaft 38 is rotated. When a cylinder 80 is driven, a rod 82 extends to press a pressed plate 84 provided for a shaft end of the rotation shaft 38 with a constant pressure. Thus, the rotation shaft 38 advanced forward against an energized force by a spring 74. As a result, a grinding wheel 4 rotates at a high speed, and simultaneously abuts to a side end surface 3 of a glass plate 1 with a constant pressure. The grinding wheel 4 polishes the abutted side end surface 3 with a constant pressure.
