PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To record a copied image in a correct direction even when each page of a book original is copied while turning the book original. SOLUTION: In the case of copying the book original, a half of the book original is copied while the remaining half is placed at the outside of an original platen. When a read section 14 reads an image of the half, a main control section 11 stores the image in an image memory 18 as a front page. Then the user turns the book original by 180 degrees to set the remaining half on the original platen of the read section 14. When the read section 14 reads the image of the remaining half, the main control section 11 stores the image in the image memory 18 as a rear page that is the remaining half of the book original turned by 180 degrees. In the case of conducting the summarized copy, a recording section 15 records the image of the front page and the image of the rear page after turning by 180 degrees side by side.
