PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To facilitate measurement of leakage current to decide the deterioration of a lightning arrester by a method wherein a lightning arrester deterioration detecting device is constituted of a zinc oxide element, a shape memory alloy and a display means. SOLUTION: This lightning arrester deterioration detecting device 4 is constituted of a heating means 5, a shape memory alloy 6 constituting a driving means and a display member 7 which is used as a display means. The means 5 is constituted of an acid zinc element 8 and a pair of heat sinks 9 pinching a zinc oxide element 8 between them and is provided on a support frame 13. When the alloy 6 being bent in an L shape recovers its shape by a temperature rise, the right side of the alloy 6 is bent toward its upper direction. The member 7 is formed into a structure, wherein a turning axis 14 is supported by the frame 13 via one pair of bearings and one side of the tabular display member 7 is coupled with the axis 14. Rotary springs 15 for turnably biasing clockwise the member 7 are respectively provided on both ends of the axis 14. The open end of this member 7 is catched on the right end of the alloy 6.
