摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a silica porous body having a sufficient mechanical strength by which the shape, the pore diameters, the pore distribution, and the porosity thereof can be controlled by adding an aqueous solution of a basic quarternary ammonium compound to a silica powder, compacting the obtained mixture, and baking the obtained compact at a specific temperature. SOLUTION: The baking temperature of the silica compacted body is 1,300-1,450 deg.C. The concentration of the aqueous solution of the quarternary ammonium compound is 0.01-5%, and the aqueous solution preferably in a proportion of 5-25 wt.% expressed in terms of outer percentage is added to the silica powder. When the aqueous solution of the basic quarternary ammonium compound contains a silica component such as the silica powder and a soluble silica compound, the strength of the compact and the sintered body is more improved, the deformation of the external shape is reduced to minimum, and the control of the pore diameters, the pore distribution and the porosity is facilitated. The content of the silica component is preferably 0.1-5 wt.% based on the aqueous solution. Choline and its derivative are preferable as the quarternary ammonium compound from the viewpoint of compactability and treatment.
