The airbag (4) is made of a strong, tear-proof material whose vol. is matched to the wt. of the carrying vehicle and that can be mounted at the front, at the rear and on the sides. An airbag control system measures speed and distance, pref. using ultrasound and there are measurement and evaluation units. Independent claims are also included for an airbag control system, for a measurement unit and for an evaluation unit.
