PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily generate the synthetic image of two objects watched from any arbitrary viewpoint. SOLUTION: The image of the head is photographed by a TV camera 2 while letting a person sit on a motor-driven rotary chair 1 and rotating the chair, images for one rotation are stored in a storage part 3 for multi-viewpoint images, and a rotation angle at every point of time of photographing the image is reported from the motor-driven rotary chair 1 to an acquisition part 4 for viewpoints. In a face image generating part 5, the viewpoint closest to a viewpoint arbitrarily designated by a viewpoint setting part 8 is selected, the area of the face in the multi-viewpoint images corresponding to the viewpoint is extracted and outputted and in a position aligning and synthesizing part 6, first of all, a rotary axis in the image is detected on the basis of the image in the face area. Next, the lowest part of the jaw is detected by a jaw position detecting part 6b in respective front and side images after area extraction. In an image synthesizing part 6d, the image of a human body and the image of the head after position alignment are synthesized.
