The combustion system has a combustion chamber (100) into which fuel in gaseous, liquid and/or solid form and/or air can be introduced an from which exhaust gas can be extracted and a gas sensor (140) as part of a combustion regulation unit. The gas sensor is arranged in the exhaust gas path (120) and can be heated to its working temperature by the exhaust gas and/or from outside the combustion chamber.
