The method involves simultaneously generating a signal for determining velocity and another signal for determining position. The signals are mixed to form a mixed signal. The mixed signal is subsequently transmitted towards an object (16) using a transmitter, so that the mixed signal is partially reflected by the object. An echo signal is evaluated by performing a velocity evaluation of the echo signal and by performing a position evaluation of the echo signal.
