PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To constitute a superconducting junction element having a Josephson junction which uses a high-temperature superconducting material for electrode, in such a way that the phase boundary can be formed into a nearly vertical steep slope and the junction can be formed stably. SOLUTION: A superconducting junction element has a superconducting layer 18 formed on a substrate 10 via a film composed of such a barrier material that functions as a barrier with respect to a superconducting material, a barrier layer 14 which is formed on the sidewall of the superconducting layer 18, is composed of a barrier material, and functions as a barrier, and another superconducting layer 26 which is formed on the substrate 10 and joined to the sidewall of the superconducting layer 18 through the barrier layer 14.
