PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce an aluminum alloy foil base capable of obtaining an aluminum alloy foil small in back side stripes. SOLUTION: An aluminum alloy ingot contg., by mass, 0.05 to 0.5% Si, 0.15 to 2.0% Fe, <=0.18% Cu, and the balance Al with inevitable impurities is subjected to homogenizing treatment at a temp. of 520 to 580 deg.C, is next subjected to hot rolling in such a manner that the starting temp. is controlled to 350 to 450 deg.C, is then subjected to cold rolling, is moreover subjected to process annealing at a temp. of 300 to 450 deg.C and is furthermore subjected to final cold rolling. The obtd. aluminum alloy foil base has a uniform and fine recrystallized structure, and the Al alloy foil obtd. by subjecting the foil base to polymerization rolling is small in back side stripes, excellent in decorativeness and disignining properties and moreover excellent in strength and corrosion resistance.
