PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the operating force of a brake action by pinching a driving friction plate and a driven friction plate between a pressure receiving face and a pressing face, coupling the free end of a lever member with an engaging spring, and engaging an intermediate section with the back face of a pressing plate. SOLUTION: In this steering drive device 10, a driving friction plate 23 and a driven friction plate 24 and arranged between a clutch outer 21 and a clutch inner 22, and they are arranged between a pressure receiving face 21 a formed on the clutch outer 21 and a pressing plate 25 and are pinched by the elastic force of an engaging spring 26. A lever member 29 is provided between a slider 28 supporting the engaging spring 26 and the pressing plate 25, the action of the engaging spring 26 is boosted, therefore a transmission clutch 20 can be held at the engaged state even when the engaging spring 26 weaker that much is used. The relatively weak engaging spring 26 pressing the friction plates 23, 24 of the transmission clutch 20 may be used, and the releasing action of the clutch 20 against the elastic force of the engaging spring 26 can be carried out lightly.
