PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a coating composition comprising a toxicologically acceptable amine chain extender, which composition comprises a free-NCO-reactive- group-containing NCO-reactive component obtained from a maleic acid diester and a polyamine component containing a primary amino group and another functional group and a polyisocyanate component. SOLUTION: The NCO-reactive component is the reaction product having at least 10 eq.% free NCO-reactive groups and obtained by reacting a diester of maleic acid or fumaric acid with a polyamine component containing two primary amine groups and at least another functional group reactive with NCO at below 100 deg.C in a ratio of the diester of <1 mol per equivalent of the NCO- reactive groups. The functional NCO-reactive group is a primary or secondary aliphatic or aromatic amine (except an aspartic ester) or a primary, secondary, or tertiary alcohol. The coating composition can be cured at below 100 deg.C.
