PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a safety fence compact and simple in structure by forming this flat plate-like fence with a square frame, leg sections provided at the lower section of the square framed and a plate section covering the square frame, and providing self-supporting means self-supporting the flat plate-like fence. SOLUTION: This safety fence 5 is a piece of flat plate-like fence 9 formed of a square frame 6, leg sections 7, 7A provided at the lower section of the square frame 6 and a plate section 8 covering the square frame 6. Self-supporting means 10, 10A serving as a weight for self-supporting the piece of flat plate-like fence 9 are provided. The lateral width of the flat plate-like fence 9 is made nearly equal to the lateral width of the narrow space between the side face of a passenger conveyor and a structure such as a column. The square frame 6 is formed with a pipe made of aluminum. The leg sections 7, 7A are welded to the lower end of the square frame 6. A marker such as 'safety' is displayed on the plate section 8, and the plate section 8 is removably fitted to the square frame 6. The self-supporting means 10, 10A are made of concrete or iron and are formed into a prism shape.
