CONSTITUTION: The apparatus for obtaining motion vector of a control point in an image encoder using a control grid interpolation method comprises: a current frame memory(302) for storing image data of a current frame; a previous frame memory(304) for storing image data of a previous frame; a vector quantization calculating unit(306) for calculating a motion vector of a control point from the image data of the current frame memory and the previous frame memory using a vector quantization method; a motion compensator(308) for outputting a motion-compensated data of the previous frame using the motion vector calculated in the vector quantization; an error calculator(310) for calculating a compensation error using the motion-compensated data and data of a current block; an error determining unit(312) for comparing the compensation error with a threshold value and outputting the motion vector when it is determined to be the repeated search; and a repeated search unit(314) for calculating a motion vector of a control point in a circulation repeat method from the image data read in the current frame memory and the previous frame memory when a repeated search request signal is input from the error determining unit.
