PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a cord easy to handle, having long expansion-retraction stroke by loosely passing a small number of core conductors into a shaft hole of a retractable tube jacket and fixing the core conductors and the tube jacket in the suitable position. SOLUTION: A flat tube jacket 11 having a shaft hole 12 of an elliptical cross section is formed with a retractable elastic material such as synthetic resin. Core conductors 20, 21 insulated each other formed by winding a thread on a wire are arranged zigzag within the tube jacket 11, the bending part is frictionally brought into contact with the inner wall of the tube jacket 11 to form a retractable cord 10. When the tube jacket 11 expand and contracts in the length direction, a pair of core conductors 20, 21 also expands and contracts. Plural projecting streaks are formed in the center direction on the inner wall surface of the tube jacket having a complete round cross section, and the core conductors 20, 21 extending in the length direction within the tube jacket 11 may be interposed between the projecting streaks.
