PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent generation of noise or damage of parts by providing a thermal head bearing member for lessening collision impact of the thermal head against the surface of a platen when it is released from press contact with a recording medium. SOLUTION: A carriage 4 is provided with a thermal head 6 disposed oppositely to a platen 2 and coming into press contact with the platen 2 separably through a recording medium by means of a head moving mechanism operable relative to the platen with the driving force of a drive motor. When a post card P is used as the recording medium of a platen supporting member 1A in the vicinity of this side end in the widthwise direction of the platen 2, a member 8 for bearing a thermal head 6 to lessen collision impact thereof against the surface of the platen 2 when the post card P is released from press contact with the thermal head 6 is disposed on the directly downstream side at the downstream side end part in the moving direction of the carriage 4.
