PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic disk device that the direction of magnetization is redirected to an original direction even when the magnetization is inadvertently reversed so that reading is surely conducted as an output. SOLUTION: A magnetic disk device uses a spin valve head 20 for data reproducing. The device has a sense current control means 21 which controls the sense current supplied to the head 20. When a read error is generated and no reading is conducted even though a retry is executed, a pin reset operation is conducted by the operation of the means 21, the direction of the pin is redirected to an original direction, then, the sense current is changed by a sense current changing means 22 and a read operation is executed.
