PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To display at least two kinds of characters with appeal under a combination with a polarizing film by use of a liquid crystal panel as a plane medium for controlling the transmission of light. SOLUTION: This display system comprises a liquid crystal panel 12 with a packaged driving power supply capable of on/off control formed in the whole surface of a visible region, polarizers 15, 18 with two kinds of characters having mutually orthogonal light absorption axes and disposed mutually opposite at one side 12a of the liquid crystal panel 12 so that the display patterns are different, a non-character polarizer 22 disposed at the other side 12b of the liquid crystal panel 12 in such a way as to face the whole surface thereof and to be in the same light absorption axial direction as that of the polarizer 18 with the character, and a backlight 27 disposed at the most back side where a view side E is at a front side.
