PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a part-color liquid crystal display element in which a field sequential system is adopted capable of displaying a desired part-color without preparing many kinds of ink and resists and also capable of changing the color of the part-color in accordance with contents of a display. SOLUTION: This liquid crystal display element is provided with a liquid crystal panel 1 and a back light 2 performing the irradiation by time-division driving light sources of three colors of, for example, red, green and blue and a liquid crystal switch 3 transmitting rays of light of the back light 2 for every fixed area of the panel 1 is provided between the panel 1 and the back light 2. Then, a synchronizing circuit 4 changing over the ON/OFF of the switch 3 so as to transmit a fixed color for every the fixed area in synchronization with the time-division drivings of the back light 2 by a driving power source 7 is provided in the element.
