An assembly has a pneumatic tyre whose beads are connected by two adapters to a rim that is no more than half the width of the fully inflated tyre. Each adapter is a mixture of reinforced rubbers and is deformable axially and radially. Independent claims are included for the following: (a) An adapter as above whose main reinforcement is radial element(s). (b) An adapter as above with mutually crossed layers at 15 - 85 deg to the circumferential direction. Each layer has parallel reinforcement elements.
