PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a flame-retardant material emitting neither toxic substances nor precursors thereof when burnt or put to disposal by incineration. SOLUTION: This flame-retardant material is a nonhalogen-and-nonphosphate- based one comprising (A) a polymer composed of recurring unit having chemical structure selected from benzene ring, naphthalene ring and norbornene ring or a saccharide having cyclic structure and (B) 1-60 wt.% of zeolite or an organic carboxylic acid salt.
