PROJECTION TYPE DISPLAY DEVICE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projection type display device that a picture having the number of pixels which cannot be realized by a single display element can be projected and displayed by being compactly synthesized and projected by a simple optical system by using plural reflection type light modulation elements. SOLUTION: This display device is constituted so that the picture having many pixels which cannot be realized by the single display element is projected and displayed by the compact optical system by splitting a light beam from a light source 10 by the 1st set of total reflection surfaces 103 and 107 of a prism 12 having two sets of total reflection surfaces 103, 104, 107 and 108, respectively modulating them by the reflection type light modulation element 13a and 13b and synthesizing and projecting them by the 2nd set of total reflection surfaces 104 and 108 of the prism 12.
