PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a process for the production of D-glutamic acid using a new reaction apparatus. SOLUTION: The enzymatic production of D-glutamic acid from L-glutamic acid is carried out by using a reaction apparatus composed of a reactor containing glutamic acid racemase and a reactor containing L-glutamic acid oxidase and connected to the former reactor in series, racemizing L-glutamic acid by the action of glutamic acid racemase and then treating the racemized product with L-glutamic acid oxidase to obtain D-glutamic acid.
