PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To record, and read by a scanner at an arbitrary timing by preliminarily setting a pulse interval of driving timing signals to be generated in one scan and an effective range in a horizontal scanning direction, and controlling to drive a recording head and a scanner head by the driving timing signals. SOLUTION: A position counter 20 counts synchronously with the driving of a carriage motor. When a count value indicating a position of a carriage in a horizontal scanning direction becomes a set value, an enable signal is outputted from a delay counter 21. The delay counter 21 starts driving a reference output pulse generating circuit 22 at the time point when a preliminarily set delay time has passed after the enable signal was inputted. Reference output pulses outputted from the circuit 22 are counted by a counter 23. An effective flag for each head is outputted from an effective flag generating circuit 24 based on information showing an effective range of the reference output pulses, and a head driving timing signal is outputted from an AND circuit 25.
