PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new compound excellent in herbicidal action and useful as a herbicide. SOLUTION: This compound is a compound of formula I [Rf is a 1-4C haloalkyl, 1-4C alkylsulfonyl or cyano; X is H, a halogen, cyano or the like; Z1=Z2-Z3 is a group N=C(Ra)C(Rb) or the like; Ra and Rb are each H, a 1-4C alkyl or the like; R1 and R2 are each H or a halogen; R3 is OH, mercapto, amino or the like; R4 is hydroxymethyl, formylamino, formyl or the like; and R5 is nitro, carboxyl, a 3-8C alkenyl or the like], for instance, 7-chloro-8-(4- chlorophenyl)-5-trifluoromethylimidazo[1,2-c]pyrimidine. The compound of formula I is obtained, for instance, by halogenation of a compound of formula III obtained through various reactions from a compound of formula II (e.g. 4- chlorophenylacetonitrile) with a halogenating agent such as phosphorus oxychloride.
