REDUCTION OF HAIR GROWTH, HAIR FOLLICLE AND HAIR SHAFT SIZE AND HAIR PIGMENTATION

PURPOSE: A reduction is provided to change the hair production rate, reduce the hair follicle and hair shaft sizes and further reduce the hair shaft pigmentation by topically applying a botanical extract, etc., having a serine protease inhibitory activity. CONSTITUTION: An effective amount of a topically active composition comprising one or more kinds of compounds derived from one or more kinds of botanical families Leguminosae, Solanaceae, Gramineae and Cucurbitaceae is topically applied to skin of a mammal. A topically active agent preferred for use in the composition includes a protease inhibitor (e.g. a soybean tryspin inhibitor) and a natural plant extract having the protease inhibitory activity (e.g. a soybean extract such as a soybean milk) and a mixture thereof. The protease inhibitor is preferably contained in an amount of 0.0001-20% (wt./vol.) and the plant extract is preferably contained in an amount of 10-99% (vol./vol.). The topical activator composition is preferably applied to the skin surface so as to be present at about 2-500 L/cm2 on the skin surface.
