The cable stripping device has a cutting tool mounted on a carrier (20), which is displaced relative to the cable (10) held between clamping devices (64,64') along the frame (60) of the cable stripping device, via a contact body engaging the cable surface. A common drive motor (38) is used for common rotation of the cutting tool and the contact body around the outside of the cable, with a winding device (40) driven by the force of the stripped insulation sheathing for take-up of the latter.
