PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To convey and sort a long item by loading the long item on one belt carrier. SOLUTION: In this belt carrier sorter 1, many belt carriers 3 loaded with a subject to be sorted travels along a guide rail 4, and a carrier conveyor 5 of the belt carrier 3 is driven in the perpendicular direction to the traveling direction to load or deliver the object to be sorted 2. An induction conveyor 8 for feeding the object to be sorted 2 to the belt carrier 3 is provided such that a feeding direction of the induction conveyor 8 becomes approximately perpendicular to the traveling direction of the belt carrier 3, and a length detecting means 9 to detect a length of the object to be sorted 2 and a control means 10 to control action of the carrier conveyor 3 according to the detected length of the object to be sorted 2 are provided, and the control means 10 controls the action of the carrier conveyor 3 such that a center of the carrier conveyor 5 in a delivering direction approximately coincides with a center of the object to be sorted 2 in the lengthwise direction.
