PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the sureness of carrying by urging a user to confirm the presence or absence of the release of energization of a separation pad. SOLUTION: This sheet feeder comprises a sheet placing table stackable of a plurality of sheets, a feed roller for feeding the stacked sheets, a separation pad energized to the feed roller, and a pressure releasing means for releasing the energizing pressure of the separation pad to switch single feed and multiple feed. This device further comprises a release presence or absence sensor for judging the state of the pressure releasing means, and when the release presence or absence sensor detects the release, this is alarmed to a user, and the feed is not started until an input is confirmed.
