The appliance has an expander lance with long seal carrier. The carrier has a seal arrangement of a pair of rings (12) on either side of the pressure fluid outlet (9). The ring pair includes an elastomer sealing ring (13) near the outlet, and a support ring (14) of a laminate material next to it. Both rings are held in separate ring grooves (15,16). The sealing ring is larger, and the support ring is smaller than the hollow profile to be expanded. The laminate material of the support ring is elastically deformable in radial direction but is stiff in axial direction, relative to the high fluid pressure for expansion. The ring groove of the support ring is connected to an axial bore of the seal carrier (11) via a channel.
