The device (1) incorporates a pressure piston (11) acting with stationary wedge surfaces (25) to produce a clamping force. The piston moves axially within a housing (5), which has radially projecting peripheral shoulders (24) on its inside. The wedge surfaces are formed on the inclined contact faces of the shoulders. The piston has support webs (23), which engage radially over the shoulders, and have counter faces (28) engaging on the wedge surfaces of the shoulders. The housing also contains a guide sleeve (31) with long grooves (32), and the support webs of the piston engage axially sliding into the grooves.
